An ongoing part of my research is to consistently support the importance of Art as a subject within our schools’ curriculum. Imagination, I believe, is central to the education of the mind; it permits the possibility of being creative.
There is both a strong connection and overlap between the concepts of imagination and education, both aspiring to broaden the individual’s world view.
Art allows me, as a facilitator, to:
>> Introduce students to their cultural heritage.
>> Introduce students to the cultural heritage of others.
>> Develop students’ understanding of the visual (and perhaps tactile) world, thus supporting perceptual training.
>> Increase students’ understanding of their inner-world, of feelings and imagination.
>> Develop practical problem-solving through manipulation of materials.
>> Enhance creativity through developing lateral thinking skills.
>> Promote inventiveness and risk taking.
